  • How do I fire up sql server management studio on windows 8.0?

  • I am guessing that question is about launching ssms not installing SSMS.

    click on start button on your keyboard which will give you start menu. Then type SSMS or SQL Server Management studio (partial type is also fine) then you would get something like below..

    hit enter and you would get ssms.

  • Is SQL server is installed on your windows machine?

    You can check SQL services from configration managers

    On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.

    If yes, open as mentioned below

    Start -> Programs -> SQL Server 2005 -> SQL Server Management Studio

    Click on the Windows Start button, click on the "Run" option and try to run the following command:
    ssms.exe

    You can set up Sql server express to get SSMS.
