  • Yes, currently there is no in-box MPEG-2 support in Media Foundation.

Here is some information about the formats that Media Foundation supports natively:

    Hi Mike

Will there be in-box MPEG-2 support in Media Foundation when Win 7 is released? Isn't the Win7 drag and drop transcode using MF? If so, it seems to able to trancode/deocde from MPEG-2? Also, on slide 9 of the WinHEC 2008, "New Inbox MF Decode Detail", there appears to be MPEG-2 support for HDV. Thanks.

  • My understanding is that the list Mike provided is the one for the W7 release.

You may be able to use the dshow MPEG-2 decoder that comes with the Premium, Professional and Ultimate versions of W7 through MF.  I haven't seen the docs on that yet to see if its use is limited to MS applications like the Dolby Digital audio decoder is.

My dshow site is http://tmhare.mvps.org.  Please use Vote As Helpful (green up arrow at top-left of posts) and Mark As Answer where appropriate.
