  • Hello,

I'm trying to install Kinect developer toolkit 1.8 after having installed the SDK, but the setup always fails. Does anyone know how I can fix this? (I am working under Windows 8 Pro 64bit and using a Kinect for Windows)

Here is the full setup log:

  • Seems the setup file "KinectDeveloperToolkit-v1.8.0-setup.exe" is broken.

Could you please re-download the setup file from www.kinectforwindows.com website and install with the new file?

  • Thanks for your response, but I'm sure that's not the problem.

I've downloaded the file at least 3 times, once with chrome another with firefox and one with a download manager and still the same problem.

  • The failed to extract message usually indicates a permissions or disk space problem.

Here I have some suggestions -

    1. Double check the "Digital Signature" information of KinectDeveloperToolkit-v1.8.0-setup.exe, (right click on the file - Properties - Digital Signatures), and make sure the name of signer is "Microsoft Corporation".

    2. Make sure the file size is 384 MB.

    3. Make sure you can install other programs on your machine.

    4. Add your user account to security/permissions and gave full control to c:\ProgramData folder.

    5. Retry the Toolkit setup.

  • Still nothing and I've even changed the owner of ProgramData.

But there's still the Package Cache folder that cause some problems. Does it have anything to do with the installation?

Do you think there's another way to extract the package?

Thanks a lot for your help.

  • The access problem to "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache" will cause the extraction failure.

    1. Can you please give me more information on the problems with "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache" folder?

    2. Can you clean up the folder "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache" manually and retry setup?

  • I've created a new Package Cache folder but the problem doesn't seem to come from it.

So, I've tried to download the toolkit from Internet Explorer (was using Google Chrome). I got the following message after download was completed: The signature of this program is corrupt or invalid.

I did some research on the WiX installer which seems to be used to create the setup. And there are some who are having the same problem but with other setups. I'm going to try and see what can be done...

Do you have any idea about this?

  • 1. Can you please tell me the Toolkit download URL you are using?

        is it http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40276 ?

    2. Can you please try downloading the Toolkit setup file from another machine with IE?

  • It finally worked!

I downloaded the file from this link : http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=323589 from another machine with IE8 or 9 and under Windows XP x86.

I was downloading from a slow internet connection before... Can this be the problem? Or maybe it's because of the browser? Or do you think there's another reason?

And thanks a lot for your help.
