Multiple Parties one Certificate RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are connecting to a partner who is using Cyclone.  The Cyclone application allows them to have multiple send AS2 sending configuration with only one Certificate, it also allows them to have multiple sending location with the same AS2-from value.  While trying to implement the parties in BizTalk it seems like it is very limited and cannot match the same functionality that the Cyclone server allows.
    1. Two parties cannot use the same certificate
    2. Two parties cannot use the same AS2 from value.
Are we missing something?  Is there some way around this?

I know a similar question has been asked but there was not a clear answer.

    Thanks

  • Biztalk as it is doesnt support either of the cases you mentioned. However, depending on the business case, you may not need diff parties configured on Biztalk if they are using the same Certificate and also AS2-from. By separating AS2 party settinsg fron EDI party settings Biztalk allows you to create a single AS2 party with a single certificate and AS2-From value and multiple parties for EDI settings.

  • Point 1 is not possible that I know of.

Point 2 IS possible. You can use context-properties within a BizTalk orchestration to make the AS2From property dynamic and set it to whatever you want in an ad-hoc way. This is a good way to work with multiple VAN providers at once. This is also a great way to use a single VAN for multiple EDI parties. You just need to reference the Microsoft.BizTalk.EDI.BaseArtifacts assembly in the folder c:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 and then you have the EDI/AS2 context properties to set in an expression shape.

EDI context properties are described here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb226554.aspx. AS2 context properties are identified here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb226483.aspx.

  • Just as an addendum to this thread, Point 1 is now possible with BizTalk 2006 R2 SP1 through a new feature that lets you override the group hub certificate in each party. Here is more information on this new feature: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb245980(BTS.20).aspx#BKMK_ConfigCert

    Thanks,
