Azure file and folder backup on bitlocker encrypted drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to use the MARS agent to backup files and folders to a Azure recovery services vault, it works fine on non encrypted drives but fails when the drive is encrypted.

Does anyone know how to get around this?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Encrypted data is supported. See the support matrix - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-support-matrix-mars-agent#supported-file-types-for-backup

Could you share the screenshot of the failure message?

  • Hi, See below image, on this test machine it worked happily until i encrypted C: then it errored afterwards.

I am unable to run it on mine (BL encrypted), but have successfully run it on lots of other unencrypted machines.

  • MARS agent does not support BitLocker protected/encrypted drives/volumes.The volume must be unlocked before the backup starts.

    Please refer to below links:

    The link you sent states

The drive in question is the OS drive (C:) so is unlocked when the computer is in use, at least that is my understanding.

  • @davidbiddle What is the encryption type you used for (C:)?
