  • Question

  • Just upgraded to VS 2013 and have a WPF/MVVM project that gets this error when trying to build:

Error 5 Unable to copy file "C:\Code\CRM\CRMPrototype\packages\ModernUI.WPF.1.0.4\lib\net40\Microsoft.Windows.Shell.dll" to "bin\Debug\Microsoft.Windows.Shell.dll". Access to the path 'bin\Debug\Microsoft.Windows.Shell.dll' is denied. CRMPrototype

  • Hello,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

Could you please tell us which version of Visual Studio did you use to create this project?

Was it always built successfully before being upgradedo Visual Studio 2013?

Are you upgrading it with the wizard?

"If you use Visual Studio 2013 together with Visual Studio 2012 or Visual Studio 2010 SP1, you can create and modify projects and files in any of the three versions. "

For more information, please refer to the document Visual Studio 2013 Compatibility.

Let's take a look at the error message "Access to the path 'bin\Debug\Microsoft.Windows.Shell.dll' is denied", please check if you could find this path on your machine and if you has set access permission for it.

There is one workaround for this scenario:

Please try to delete this file from bin folder and rebuild the project.

For more details, please refer to Unable to copy file, Access to the path is denied .

    Best Regards,
