content sources for Search RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have one query about content sources.

I would like to define multiple content sources for my search application and would want to use specific content source based on need.   Let us say ContentSource1 , CS2 , CS3 were created for Search APp (SA1) and i have crawled all content sources and i am getting results from all sources but my need is i don't want to use some content source.   how to achieve this? do i need to stop crawling, if i stop crawling even then it would give results which were crawled earlier right.   do i need to define crawl rule?

  • Hi Cnivass,

As per your requirement, you can just create a search scope based on the specified content source and enable that search scope using search settings of site collection.

In addition to the above, configure your search box web part to use the search scope display group as a source to search the content.

    I hope this will help.

At any point of time if you want to clear the crawled content from the content sources, you can reset the content index. Please note that this will be applied for all the conent sources which are under the Search Service Application.

  • I'm not fully understanding your question, but I think you want to look at using Search scopes. You can define search scopes that include content from one or more content sources.

These scopes can then be made available in some or all sites.
