WIA on Windows 8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to make Metro style application that acquires an image using WIA (Windows Image Acquisition).

    However, <wia.h> looks like commented out by Desktop Family region and I cannot use WIA interface;

    #pragma region Desktop Family
    #pragma endregion

    Does it mean that Metro Style applications cannot access any scanners?

  • I see. Thanks for information.

    I hope WIA will be supported by Windows 8 RTM.

  • Hi,

    Does it mean Windows 8 Desktop also stop supporting WIA? Or only Metro does not support WIA? Thanks.

  • Hi Shawn.

    The question and answer were specific to Metro style apps.  WIA is supported for Desktop apps.

  • Hello I cannot find VideoPreview Class  control from VBA code in MSAccess 2010 App, is it included in WIA for Windows 8?

    DeviceManager class is still present.

  • What's the suggested way to acquire an image from a device in a Windows Store app?

  • I wonder that too... how do HP & Canon and other scanner vendors access to their devices in Win8 Store apps?

  • Is there no support (now or planned) for image acquisition with Windows Store apps?  I'd love to throw up a Document Management app I'm writing, but the WIA block is a showstopper.
