VS2008 install hangs on Win 7 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I can’t get Visual Studio 2008 to install under Windows 7 build 7000. It hangs at the end of installing Runtime pre-Requisites (the first item).  I’ve tried running in Admin mode, with Vista Compatibility, with no Antivirus, with most processes and services killed and nothing works.  I tried removing a registry key (in SQMClient) that one forum poster said fixes a problem with Win 7 and VS2008.  No go.  This was a fresh install of Win7, no previous install of VS.

Thanks for any hints you can provide.

    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Could you please try to help me to use collect tool to collect the log files of VS2008 from your "%temp%" folder?
    http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx

Then compress them into a zip file and post a link back. You can upload your log files to SkyDrive and post the link back here.

    Steps:
    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder
    - Install VS2008
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder

    Thanks
