SQL Server - Which one do I need RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I have install Visual Studio Professional 2012.  I will develop a application that will use SQL Tables on the PC only, NOT on the web.

    Questions:

    (1)  What SQL Server should I down purchase/down load/Install?

    (2)  When I implement the application on another PC will the other PC have to have SQL Server installed on it  or will my application have everything it need?

    (3)  What LINK do I used to purchase the SQL Server from question 1 above?

    Ed.

  • Hello Ed,

You can install SQL Server 2012 Express edition with SP1, which is a free edition. You can download the same from here (http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=35579 )

Based on your system, you can install either the x86  /x64 verison. Open System Information (Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools ), and check the System Type. If your system is x64 based PC, then download SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe from the above webpage. Alternatively, there is a x86 version is also available. This package has SQL Server Express edition, with SQL Server Management Studio.

You can download the sample databases from this location: http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/

    Hope, this may help :)

  • When I do a FIND on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft I get no hits.  Do that mean I do not have the product unloaded on my PC?  What do I do next?

  • I am just starting to use SQL Server for the first time.  I need help.  I clicked on the site to download the sample databases but I have no idea what to download.  Please give some instructions on what to do once I am on the site.  I would like a very sample process to show me how to create a database, tables and how to add entries to table and select rows from tables.
