Question

Skype for Business, do we need file share for creating SQL Alwayson

and how many nodes are required as minimum to support HA, is it 2 or 3

Hi M Tayal,

Two nodes are required as minimum when creating an AlwaysOn Availability Group in your Skype for Business Server deployment.

In addition, it is recommended that you configure the cluster quorum settings to use a file share witness during Windows Failover Cluster creation, and the configured file share will be used temporarily when you initialize the databases.  For more details, please review the following articles.

File Share witness is part of your WSFC creation. You can use Quorum disk or file share.

To build WSFC you need minimum of 2 nodes and a domain controller.

You can have domain controller on one of the nodes but it is not recommended.

So you need minimum of three servers one for DC and two for nodes.

Only two nodes can be part of the SQL AlwaysOn .

YOu are required to install SQL standard installation on each node and enable always on feature.
