Azure - Windows Server 2008 R2 KMS Activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I'm currently deploying three WIN2008R2 VM's on Azure using the default Virtual Network (West Europe). During configuration I noticed that the machine wasn't activated and thus I tried to activate it using the following command Cscript.exe C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato. However this resulted into the error that the KMS server could not be found, any advice ?

    C:\Users\ladmin>NSLOOKUP kms.core.windows.net
    Server:  UnKnown
    Address:  100.76.188.70

Error: 0xC004F074 The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer coul
d not be activated. The Key Management Service (KMS) is unavailable

This issue occurs on all three servers.

    Regards.

  • Hi,

I suggest you to try the below command

    cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <AVMA_KEY>

The AVMA_KEY depends on the edition, please refer to the below link

  • Hi Sowmya, Craig,

I followed both your actions the issue still isn't solved. the kms name is resolved and available using psping, during the activation the following is logged.
