Sending Messages to BizTalk without any subscribers RRS feed

  • Question

  • New to BizTalk. Is it allowed to send a message to BiZTalk without any subscribers created for the message? It may sound stupid why I ask this question. Just want to understand how BizTalk works.

  • As biztalk is a publish-subscribe system, if a message is published , the biztalk engine expects there will be at least one subscriber who it can route the message to. Otherwise, an appropriate error message will be generated

  • However, there is a null adapter which redirects messages to /dev/null (essentially throws them away) for scenarios where you need to receive a message but do nothing with it. See Jan Eliasen's blog for more info: http://biztalk.eliasen.dk/Adapters.aspx

It is also possible to have an orchestration subscribe to a message but have no output.

  • Hi,

    Shay Feldman is correct.

Is possible to send messages to BizTalk without any subscribers created for the message but the message will be suspended in MessageBox with the error information: “…Could not find a matching subscription for the message….”

The no matching subscription error is caused when a message is published to the MessageBox and BizTalk cannot find a subscriber for that message.
