What do I open a .vba file with? RRS feed

  • I have been trying to open a .vba file but it asks me what I want to open it with,

    but unfortunately I do not   know what to open it with.

  • (1) Open it in Notepad. (I.e. open Notepad and select "File... Open" and select the file, or, open notepad and then drag the file into Notepad.

    You will be able to see if it is a plaintext file, and, to verify what the contents of the file is. (For example - is it readable in plaintext? Do the first few lines contain some commentary on what type of file it is?)

    (2) If it is a file associated with a VBA project, then, the VBA IDE is your best bet. Open any MS Office app (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc) and then press Alt-F11 to open the VBA IDE. Then use File...Open to see if it can open the .vba file.
