It's one of the most massive assemblies and weights 1.4 MB. But I have no clue why it is included in an application. Is it possible to get rid of this assebly?

No, you can't. Generally, we are all using .Net Standard to construct Xamarin.Forms now. And I guess so did you. Then system.xml.dll is included by .Net Standard: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.xml?view=netstandard-2.0. So it will appear in your project. Please notice that we can't modify the .Net Standard's architecture. Try to use the linker to optimize your app's size: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/xamarin/ios/deploy-test/linker?tabs=macos#link-sdk-assemblies-only Set it to Link SDK assemblies only to reduce the size.
