Compare same Tasks across projects in MS Project Server 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Sir/Mam,

Is there a out of box functionality provided by  MS Project Server/Pro 2007 to compare the same Tasks present in different projects.

Our aim is to find out how much time/resources the Teams are taking to complete a given task.

    Thanks in Advance

    Sai

  • The Data Analysis views will perform that function quite well. Just create
a view with the data you want, and set the filter by task name. This is
assuming that the tasks are named the same (or at least have some sort of
    common identifier).

Alternately, you could do that quite easily with SSRS (a bit of development
work), or Excel by pointing the Data Source at the Task Usage Table in the
    Reporting database.

  • Hi Sai,

there are several ways to do this. In order to compare the same task in different projects you will need to determine what the same task is. You can achieve this by creating a task custom field where you allocate the same value on each task over many projects that represent the same task.

Once you have done this you will be able to incorporate the task custom field into the OLAP Cubes and as Andrew already mentioned you can then ananlyse your "same tasks over many projects" to determin how much time you spend on a task.

    I hope this helps
