Backup of database fail - Would it be access right ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are running SQL Server 2005.  We have copied a database from Production Server to a newly created Testing Server.  We also copied the backup plan across.

When we perform a backup of a database via SQL Agent, it failed.  The owner of the task is SA.  From the ErrorLog file, we find that there is an error message:

BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'D:\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\BACKUP\DatabaseA_db_daily.bak'. Operating system error 112(error not found).

We wonder why it works on the production server but not in testing one. In this way, we try to run the command in Query Anazlyer interactively as follow:

backup database DatabaseA to disk='D:\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\BACKUP\DatabaseA_db_daily.bak' with init, description='DatabaseA Daily DB Backup'

We observe that the database is backed up (BAK file is growing) but it seems that it cannot be written - Error message:

    Msg 3202, Level 16, State 2, Line 1

Write on "D:\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\BACKUP\DatabaseA_db_daily.bak" failed: 112(error not found)

    Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

    BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

    Your advice is sought.

  • Error 112 is a Operating System Error which means there is not enough space on the disk..
