ReportViewer in WebForms Parameter Change Forces "View Report" Button To Be Selected RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a 2016 Report Viewer WebForms control, and there are parameters at the top of the report. When you first load the report, everything looks fine. When you change a parameter (dropdown with multi-select is the one that comes to mind) and click off of that selection, the report goes blank. Then, you need to hit "view report" to update the results.

Is this normal behavior? My expected functionality is that it would update when you change a parameter. I guess I could see if the report took a long time to generate and there were a lot of parameters that you would need to change, having the report load again and again could take a long time. Is that why it does not automatically reload?

  • hello Jared,

Your guess is correct. Since SSRS does server rendering, we would rather wait for all parameter updates to complete before doing a render again. This behavior has not changed since earlier releases.

Thanks for the feedback. We will consider it when making future updates.
