Windows security group in sql 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created a windows security group in AD and added myself as a user to this group. I then added this group to sql 2008 and made this the owner of a DB. However, when I try to login to sql server as that user I get access denied.

Not sure if I am missing something to get Windows groups to work.

  •   It may be possible that the Windows group you created was implicitly created (as the result of a GRANT statement), but doesn't have permission to CONNECT SQL permission or that the user has been explicitly denied permission to connect to SQL Server.

The following query may help you to find out if this is the root cause of the problem:

    SELECT logins.name, logins.is_disabled, perms.permission_name, perms.state_desc
        FROM sys.server_principals logins, sys.server_permissions perms
    	WHERE logins.principal_id = perms.grantee_principal_id
         AND perms.type = 'COSQ'
         AND ( logins.type = 'G' OR logins.type = 'U' )
