    i'm installing adventure work 2012 database in SQL Server 2008R2.i'm getting error [error hRESULT e_fail has been returned from a call to a com component][database size is 508 MB]i tried sqlcmd but i cant attach adventre work 2012,Could please any one help me how to attach Adventure work 2012 database in sql server 2008 R2 and tell me how to use sqlcmd.

  • You won't be able to install the 2012 version of AdventureWorks on any version of SQL older than 2012. The database contains functionality specific to SQL Server 2012 (hence why there are different versions for each version of SQL), and will have a compatibility level of 110, unlike SQL 2008 R2 which is 100.

    If you want AdventureWorks on your SQL 2008 R2 installation then you'd need to install the 2008 R2 version since that's the one designed for that version. You can download it from http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/93587 otherwise if you really want the 2012 version then you'd need to first build a SQL 2012 installation to put it on.
