SSRS rdl vs rdlc RRS feed

We would like to migrate our current reports in Windows form to SSRS. The reports will need to be accessed through:

    1. Window application
    2. SSRS browser portal

The reports will be distributed to multiple clients, and we are not sure the best way to deploy the reports. Through some discussion with a couple of IT experts, we were told that there are 2 ways of accessing (and deploying) the reports, but we are not sure which one is more appropriate:

    • Develop and deploy the SSRS reports to clients' SQL Server and run the report through intranet. In other words, the report as rdl file
    • Embed the reports (rdlc files with ReportViewer control) in ASP.NET project and deploy the asp.net to client sites' IIS for intranet

Your comments and advice are most appreciated!

    Thanks for your comments.

In reality, we may need to provide both reports to the end users of different environment. If I maintain one type of report (such as rdl), how hard would it be to convert to the other one (for instance, rdlc)?
