TCP Urgent

    Question

  • Is there a way to send/receive TCP Urgent packets?  I'm looking at the telnet RFC and it seems that to completely implement it you need to watch for and process those types of packets.  It doesn't appear that Windows.Networking.Sockets.StreamSocket supports it.

  • This is not exposed in the WinRT API's.

This won't help if you are attempting to implement the RFC, but you may consider the workaround architecture (separate socket for urgent messages) mentioned in this KB article. It pertains to Winsock, but the alternative app architecture may work for your use scenario using the WinRT APis.

  • I was wanting to implement the RFC.  If there is no way to get TCP Urgent through the WinRT APIs, is there another way to get that through other APIs that are visible from a metro app?
