Virtual windows OS on Linux RRS feed

  • Dear All,

    i am working on Linux last versions and i am trying to establish a virtual machine for windows server 2003 but when i want to boot from windows cd it didn't work so plz help find the suitable file according that linux doesn't work with extension like  (setup.exe)

  • If you are using VMWare then enable Leagcy mode for the cdrom drive.

  • Wait a second, you will need to install a Virtual Machine application. Linux does have emulation type support for windows executables but not to the degree you are on about. You seem confused about what a virtual machine is. I would suggest you read up first and maybe reconsider your set up. Also you may wish to post more details, like Distro you are running and what you want from the server. Is it going to be company based or home as you only have a few free cals and I am not sure about the set up on virutal servers for licencing.

  • You could have a look at cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) but there is nothing that works the other way to give the effect of a full copy of windows running on linux. WINE (http://www.winehq.com/) will allow some basic applications to run.

    I think you should read up a little about why you can't run windows executables on linux.
