    waht is the use of row-offset in page?

    please give me simple explanation.

    Every data row has a row offset. Row-Offset in page records how far the first byte of the row is from the start of the page

    When SQL looks at a data/index page, what do you think is easier: scanning the entire page for a value or using a pointer to show where on the page the value is? Obviously a pointer will be much quicker, this si what the row offset it.
