Windows Phone 8.1 MDM : Enterprise application restrictions not working with app store url and app package id changes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have implemented app control in MDM where we block app on windows phone by package ids from below url.

Some days back, above url has been migrated to below new url:

Here format and package id of apps got changed. I am not able to block apps on windows phone with new url app package id. I am not sure if device is referring to old package id or new.

I have observed that my Windows phone store is still referring to windowsphone.com url when I try to download app from app store.

Is this the reason apps from url "https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/flipkart/9wzdncrfj356" not getting blocked on windows phone as app package id format is different.

    Device details:

Model: NOKIA Lumia 630 DUAL SIM
    OS version: 8.10.14234.375
    Firmware revision number: 02040.00021.15053.36003
    Hardware revision number: 3.0.4.0
    Radio software version: 20c9.00069.0001
    Chip SOC version:8626

App block was working fine before app store url changes.

Please let me know if any solution/workaround available for this issue. Thanks.

  • Windows Phone 8.1 requires a product ID for App restrictions.  Based on your URLs the store is no longer using the Product ID for the URL. I have reached out to my counterparts to reply with information on getting a product id now that the URL has changed.

  • There is a temporary solution in place to unblock customers:

To find publisher and product name for Microsoft apps in Windows Store for Business
    1. Go to the Windows Store for Business website, and find your app. For example, Microsoft OneNote.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/business-store
    2. Copy the ID value from the app URL. For example, Microsoft OneNote's ID URL is https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/onenote/9wzdncrfhvjl, and you'd copy the ID value, 9wzdncrfhvjl.
    3. In your browser, run the Store for Business portal web API, to return a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) file that includes the publisher and product name values.
    Request URI
    https://bspmts.mp.microsoft.com/v1/public/catalog/Retail/Products/{app ID}/applockerdata
