How to Migrate a on Prem SQL 2012 cluster to Azure, ASR is not working with Cluster shared volumes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Friends,

I need your expert help on Migrating our on-Prem SQL cluster to Azure , ASR is not supporting cluster migration or replication.I need a solution as i couldn't find any help or documentation related to this.

Currently SQL cluster running on 2 Nodes as HYper-V VMs ( Active -Passive backed by CSV volumes)

On Azure we do not need a cluster once we migrated, we are okay with a standalone node. Please help me as i have no clue.

    Thanks

    Anil

  • Hi,

you can protect the SQL Server cluster to a standalone SQL Server instance in the primary location and recover it in the Azure.

    1. Configure an additional standalone SQL Server instance on the primary on-premises site.

    2. Configure the instance to serve as a mirror for the databases you want to help protect. Configure mirroring in high-safety mode.

    3. Configure Site Recovery on the primary site

    4. Use Site Recovery replication to replicate the new SQL Server instance to Azure. As it's a high-safety mirror copy, it will be synchronized with the primary cluster but replicated using Site Recovery replication.

    5. After a successful replication to Azure, you can failover the SQL VM to Azure and commit
