Ole DB or ODBC Login Error RRS feed

  • I have a user creating templates using powerpivot sometime when doing a data refresh they get the following message.

    OLE DB or ODBC error: Login failed for user 'Jonas01'.; 42000.
    A connection could not be made to the data source with the DataSourceID of 'cebc0ab9-67d7-4f64-a4de-d67afa5c846e', Name of 'SqlServer CLAY-JONAS JonasConstructionDM'.
    An error occurred while the partition, with the ID of 'AP_Transactions_15df0a20-d535-45b1-8f8e-5c3ee2839533', Name of 'AP_Transactions' was being processed.
    The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed.

    I am using SQL 2008 R2 on a windows 2008 R2 with SQL authenticaion.

  • Hi Howardtduck,

    Base on the error message, the server could not connect to external data sources on remote servers. Either the account used to run data refresh, or the data source credentials specified in the schedule, doesn’t have read permissions on the data source. To resolve this issue, please grant the account read permissions and retry data refresh. For more details, please refer to this article: Troubleshooting PowerPivot Data Refresh.

    Besides, the account which is used to run the data refresh job must be a Windows domain user account. The account must have Contribute permissions on the workbook so that it can open the workbook to refresh its data. In many cases, this account must also have read permissions on the external data sources used during data refresh.
