Extend SQL AlwaysOn On-Prem to Azure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.  I'm new to understanding SQL Server with Azure.  My organization currently has a on-prem SQL 2014 AlwaysOn cluster with 2 physical HA nodes and 1 physical DR node (remote).  We want to upgrade/migrate the cluster to SQL 2017.  We want to maintain on-prem physical for HA, and leverage Azure for DR.  Is it correct that this is as straightforward as adding a secondary replica as a VM in Azure to be the DR node?

For failing back to on-prem from Azure, can it be to a physical node, or has to be fail back to a VM?
