  • Is Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer require separate License ? Does it gets installed with Express Install or How it is gets installed ?

  • If you mean VSS Writer as in the SQL Server VSS Writer service, it has nothing to do with Visual SourceSafe. It's used for backup/restore operationgs through the Volume Shadow Copy service framework. It's available with Express.   • VSS functionality to check in/out code is included with SQL Server, and does not require a separate license.

     

    Visual SourceSafe itself, is provided with some versions of Visual Studio, or by separate purchase.

  • I think here VSS means Volume Shadow copy  Service . but I am not sure.
