Why could not get "Pin to Start" context menu for lnk file in Windows 8.1 RTM RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have the code to get the context menu for the lnk file, it works well in Windows 8, but it can not get "Pin to Start" in Windows 8.1, why?

     Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
             ListContextMenu(LnkFileName)
         End Sub

        Public Sub ListContextMenu(ByVal LNKFileName As String)
             Dim ShellApp, AppNameSpace As Object
             Try
                 ShellApp = CreateObject("Shell.Application")
                 AppNameSpace = ShellApp.NameSpace("").ParseName(LNKFileName)
                 For Each verb As Object In AppNameSpace.Verbs
                     ListBox1.Items.Add(verb.Name)
                 Next
             Catch ex As Exception
             End Try
         End Sub

  • Hi gaxjyxq,

    Welcome to MSDN forum!

    For preventing the Start Screen from getting cluttered, we have restricted programmatic access to the 'Pin to Start Screen' menu command for 3rd party apps.This is also why your application, Pin To 8, was not able to pin anything to the Start screen.

    Regards!
