Transfering Files Without Updating Creation Date On The Files RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having a small problem with transfering files from one sharepoint to another as I want to keep the original creation date of all the files the same. I've already tried transfering the files across using windows explorer due to their high file size but each time it updates the creation date (modified date) to the date and time I moved them across.

My question is, Is there a way to move files across from one sharepoint to another without the creation (modified) date changing to that of the day they we're moved.

  • There is a way - because the Migration companies' software transfer files in that way - however it requires (probably clever) programming and naturally no-one from the migration companies whose sales depend to a large extent on such finesses is saying how they did it.

So in the end it is not likely to be worth doing. Persuade instead your bosses that it doesn't matter if the dates (and the creator/Modifier) are amended.
