Prevent users from installing Desktop Search RRS feed

  • Question

Is there a way to prevent users from installing Windows Desktop Search even if they have administrative rights?  With google desktop you can specify maximum version through a GPO and set it to and this will prevent them from installing.  I was wondering if there is something like this.  Please advise.

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for your inquiry. What version of Windows Search and OS are you referring to? Is this for an Enterprise environment?

    Thank you,

  • This would be for an enterprise environment.  Presently run windows CP client stations and Windows Server 2003.  We would like to prevent all users from installing any version of Desktopp search.

  • Hi Brian,

Group Policy may be used to apply preferred configurations or policy settings for Windows Search. The capability you ask for is currently not provided.  For more info. on Policy Settings and Differences in Group Policy between Versions you may view the following resource: Windows Search 4 Administrator's Guide/Group Policy for Windows Search.

    Thank you,
