  • "devcon install" is only useful for a very particular type of driver: virtual drivers that use a fake device.  "devcon install" does two things: it creates a new fake device using the hardware ID you specify, then it installs the given INF file to handle that device.

    For a PnP driver with real hardware, "devcon install" is a disaster.
