Help with Help!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to add help to an application in Visual Studio 2010. I've been doing circles the last few days searching and playing with tools like Microsoft HTML Help Workshop and HelpStudio Lite to create a help file. I can't seem to find any good info or tutorial to help me accomplish this. I keep running into issues. So I have a few questions that would help me out a ton!!

    1. Is a .chm file outdated? Should I be using a newer format?

    2. Does anybody know of a better, free tool to use?

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated... Thank you!

  • Hello,

Compiled HTML are definitely not outdated but not so portable outside to Windows, WinHelp is no longer supported out of the box in Winows 7 and Vista, it's deprecated.

Depends on the kind of help, and documentation I need to create, I'd use anything including pure HTML, PDF, or CHM files.

For something more powerful you can use Sandcastle Help File Builder .

Note that to use Sandcastle Help File Builder you need to have Sandcastle installed.

    Eyal, Regards.
