  • That's because you're not supposed to insert a file in a webpage created with EW4.   EW4 is not a part of Office, and expects the page content to be valid HTML and CSS.  [The reverse is true of FrontPage: it was part of Office, and often produced content that is not valid for todays web.]

You would paste your content into the page in a way that produced HTML and did not bring in any Office-specific styling (which is generally not appropriate for the web).

An excel page is a table.  Select and copy the data you want, paste it into EW's design view, and, in the context menu that appears in the lower right hand corner of what you pasted, select "remove formatting".  That will remove most of the incorrect formatting (styling intended for print, etc.).   It may still leave you with attributes you'll need to correct or remove, such as heights with no units specified.  You'd check Design View to spot these: EW will highlight the issues.

You would then create any additional styling you need for the table in EW.
