close button on edit menu of sharepoint webparts do not work RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

We are having customized sharepoint home page.

We have several web-parts on the home page.

The close link in the edit-menu of web-parts do not function.

We tried to go through Edit Page display mode. It does not close on direct click for close link on the edit menu, even in this mode.

Kindly help us how to close these web parts and also why the close link is not functioning and how to resolve this issue.

    Thank you

  • It seems, some script got corrupted on your page. Quite often times SCA's run into this issue like not able to close the web parts. You can remediate this issue by navigating to "Web Parts Maintenance" page and close the web part.

In order to navigate to web parts maintenance page, append ?Contents=1 to your site URL.

    A typical example: default.aspx?contents=1

    Hope this helps.

  • There are many reasons for this issue. A data view web part, CEWP etc. Example: If you copy any content from other web site or SharePoint pages in Content Editor Web Parts, the code appends the id's of web parts in the content. If you carefully watch the code, you can find the ID. Or simply recreate the issue web parts.
