VBA or DMV to retrieve Table description ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the PowerPivot management window, you can provide a description to a table by right clicking on its tab and selecting "description" in the contextual menu. I would like to retrieve this description by VBA, either by means of the vba object model or by DMVs. So far, I have not found a solution. Does anyone know how to achieve that?

  • You can use DAX Query to retrieve a table of data from the Power Pivot model into Excel. DAX Query is often used with DAX table expressions, but can also be used with DMVs. Try this one:

    SELECT DIMENSION_NAME, [DESCRIPTION] FROM $SYSTEM.MDSCHEMA_DIMENSIONS WHERE CUBE_NAME = 'Model'
