SSMA for Oracle install error: "Oracle client software not found"

Question
-
During install of SSMA 4.2 for Oracle, I immediately get the error:
"Required Component Missed
Oracle client software not found.
Setup is unable to find Oracle client software. You can install it from Oracle product media... etc."
I have the following versions of Oracle client installed:
Oracle database 10g Express Edition (XE database w/client included?)
Oracle - OraClient11g_home1 (part of Oracle 11g Release 2 ODAC Oracle Data Access Components install - contains a client?)
Oracle instant client 10g.
Does SSMA require the standard client (not free), or is it supposed to work with any of the above free Oracle client versions?
I have tried pointing ORACLE_HOME to each of the 3 clients, and PATH to each bin directory, but all give the same error during SSMA install.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, -Ken

Apparently, SSMA for Oracle requires the full Oracle Client, as I was only able to complete the SSMA for Oracle install after installing the full Oracle 11g (for x64) client.
None of the 3 flavors of Oracle clients mentioned above would satisfy the SSMA installer.

Hi Ken,
Under “Requirements for the SSMA for Oracle client” section in the download page of SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle v4.2, I have found the following statements:
Oracle Client 8.1.7 or a later version, and connectivity to the Oracle databases that you want to migrate. The Oracle client version must be the same version as, or a later version than, the Oracle database version.
If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Thanks Tom,
All my clients are the same version or later than the database. That's not the issue. I just want SSMA for Orcle to stop giving that error message, and find one of the 3 clients.
Has anyone had success with SSMA connecting to an Oracle 10g XE database using any of those 3 Oracle clients?

I installed type administrator for my oracle 10G client and was able to connect SSMA 5.2 with Oracle as source.

For what it is worth, prior to installing SSMA I had already installed the Oracle client according to the custom settings we normally use so I knew the client was installed and working. When I went to install SSMA I received the message about can't find the Oracle client as well but I just went ahead with the install and when I provided SSMA with the configurations it connected to the Oracle database just fine.Wednesday, April 18, 2012 6:11 PM

Hello Neeraj,
Please choose the first option - Install Client and it should work.
Thanks,
