Excel Macro to merge pdfs for equipment submittal RRS feed

  • I have a folder with sub folders filled with PDF cut sheets for valves, pipe, fittings, etc. for every job I have to piece together manually. I would like to be able to open up excel, fill out a cover sheet for the job and then click check boxes for the desired PDFs and then press a button and have excel create one PDF file for a submittal. Is this possible to do with excel macros and visual basics?

  • The short answer to your question is no - at least not using Excel alone.  However you can do it with third party software e.g. Adobe Acrobat or PDF Creator, to which end there are several examples of suitable macro code that you can find with your preferred search engine.

  • I used a free tool called PDFCreator (free version) a while back (~10 years).  It is written in C# and has a .NET COM interface you can call from VBA.  It also has a command line interface.  Here is an example of merging PDFs.
