Database facilities in VB/VS 2015

    Question

  • I have recently downloaded and installed Visual Studio 2015 Community edition

It works fine, except I can find no templates to create a database application.  Is VS SQL included or does it require a separate download?  If it is, how may I access the create database facilities?

    Thanks

  • Hi Code-player,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Visual Studio itself does not include any database systems other than those it uses internally.

In order to develop a data-connected application in Visual Studio, you typically install the database system on your local development machine, and then deploy the application and database to a production environment when they are ready.

    Please refer to:

Meanwhile, please go to Control >Programs >Programs and Features, Select Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 and click on 'Modify',

To check if you have installed SQL Server Data Tools:

You could also download it from the following link:

    Best Regards,

  • Thank you for your suggestions.

I had already concluded that I needed to install the MS SQL Server Data Tools, and I updated my VS 2015 as instructed and the Data Base options duly appeared.

However, it appears that I must also download and install LocalDB.  Your advice on how I might find the download and install it for use by VS 2015 would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Hi Code-player,

Do you mean that if youwould like to install LocalDB?

Once you installed "SQL Server Data Tools", the LocalDB is also installed well with VS.
