Sharepoint sort problem

Question

I have a list in sharepoint that contains both folders and a couple of text files. I want to display the text files at the top of the list in alpha order followed by the folders in alpha order. I went into modify the view and tried sorting by type and then name but it doesn't work (tried it both acscending and descending). Thought about sorting it by content type but that column is not a choice in the sort option.

In the Create/Edit View page, in the Sort section, there's a checkbox to Sort only by specified criteria (folders may not appear before items).  Did you check this?  I was able to display items above my folders in this manner.

Try by type desc and name asc and check the box: <label for="OverrideOrderBy">Sort only by specified criteria (folders may not appear before items).
