Issue Upgrading to SQL Server Developer 2008 R2 - WMI Repair Necessary Preventing Upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I attempted to upgrade my local version of SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition to SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition. I experienced the following error during installation. I did have Visual Studio open at the same time (probably not a good idea).

My desktop is Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1.

The installation never successfully completed. I have tried to complete the installation and also tried to uninstall what was partially installed but get the error below. I've spent a few hours researching possible ways to repair WMI but with no success.

When I look at properties of the WMI service, I get an Invalid Namespace errorclick on the properties tab with no error but it did not list any dependencies. Once I retried to remove SQL Server R2, the WMI setup error (seen above) was displayed and now the service properties error is back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tom
