Localizing menus created by my package RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone!

I am developing a plug-in for visual studio 2005 and 2008 (and in near future 2010). Now I have to localize my plug-in, I don`t have problems all my controls except for menus that I show in visual studio.

In 2005 this strings are located in CTC file and in 2008 in VSCT file. Is there a way to make these file localizable. Or I just have to make copies of them for each language and build plug-in for each language separately?

  • Check out "How to localize a managed VS Package". It's a bit specific to VS 2008, but it'll give you a pretty good idea as to what's required for both.

I seem to recall that the CTC.exe compiler that shipped with VS 2005, supported an /lcid switch that you could use to build localized .CTO resources. I think managed packages back then still used a native resource UI .DLL. So instead of a resource assembly, you'd actually have the satellite resoure dll in a subdirectory (based on codepage ID).
