Wow, thank you Kinect team! RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I've been working on a project using the Beta SDK since it was released last year. There were three features I needed that the beta didn't come with, which a lot of people were actually asking for as well:

    • DepthAndPlayerIndex support for the 640x480 depth stream
    • Color -> Depth mapping support for 640x480 color and depth streams
    • Synchronized streams from the skeleton, color and depth streams

This project involves finger tracking and gestures, so the 640x480 depth stream was a requirement.

For the first point, I used a custom breadth-first search based on the skeleton and depth data to do my own DepthAndPlayerIndex equivalent. For the second, I ended up using OpenCV for a perspective shift with custom calibraton. Never solved the third problem, closest I got was based on the polling model Eddy posted a while back.

The new SDK provides all three of these features out of the box! I'm extremely grateful, as your implementations are faster than mine, cleaner (now I can drop my unsafe code) and don't involve any additional calibration. Thank you for listening to the community and including these capabilities in the latest release.
