Preventing User from accessing Non-Metro Desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are currently using Windows 8 Embedded to lock down most keystrokes and gestures that would allow the user to leave the Metro Internet Explorer application, but the only way remaining for the user to leave the browser is to click on the "View on Desktop" button. Does anyone know of how to disable that button or prevent users from leaving IE metro entirely?

Answers

  • I was able to stop the user from using "View on Desktop" by going into gpedit and enabling "Block certain applications from running" and added iexplore.exe to the list. The metro version of internet explorer runs, but stops the metro version from going to the desktop.
