  • Question

  • Hi,

I'd like to write some software that can inter-operate with Windows 7 Backup and Restore backups. The catalog files (wbcat extension) are stored in a binary format for which I can't find any documentation. If there is any documentation available, could someone point me to it? If not, would it be possible for me to ask some questions about the format?

    Thanks,

    Philip

  • Hi Felipet:

This forum is dedicated to supporting open specifications. You can find open specifications at

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/openspecs/main/ms-openspeclp/3589baea-5b22-48f2-9d43-f5bea4960ddb

You question does not appears to be related to open specifications. Can you please provide more details about what you are trying to accomplish? Are you developing on Windows or some other platform?

The following document describes what backup and restore methods are specified in open specifications:

    [MS-STOROD]: Storage Services Protocols Overview

  • Hi Obaid,

Yes, I was wondering if the wbcat file format is described in an open specification. After searching some more, I think the answer is no.

I am developing for Windows and trying to parse the files created by  Windows Backup and Restore, which is a built-in Windows component.

    Thanks,

    Philip
