kernal mode driver for WIN Server 2016 RRS feed

  • can i build a PCI drivr for win server 2016 using  wdk 10 ?

    please suggest which wdk version is suitable for this.

    what are the tools required for this ?

    how to set the environment in visual studio 2017 for win server 2016 driver development ?

    only win 7, 8 and 10 option is available in target os menu.

    please suggest.

  • The environment would be Win10 if you only care about Server 2016 and later.   The general rule is you build the driver for the earliest version of Windows you want supported.   There is no different process for developing a server versus a desktop driver.

  • For servers, you use WDKs named after corresponding client OS. So use the latest Win10 WDK

  • 1. is there any difference in approach win 7 and win 10 driver development or same as win 7 driver development we can do      for win 10 also ?

    2. if i develop a driver for win 7 using WDF then only compilation for win 10 OS is enough or i need to change in source code      also?

  • It is not only the same driver development, you can compile the driver for Win 7 and use it on Windows 10.
