Mismatch in Versions Reported in Setup Discovery Report vs VS 2015 Help > About

    Question

  • I have installed SQL Server vNext and ran the Setup Discovery Report and noticed the Version Numbers reported are different that what is reported from Visual Studio 2015 > Help > About Visual Studio  (also, R Services are not reported in VS Help even though I have RTVS installed)

  • Hello Ulysses,

    The "Discovery Report" shows you the version of the installed Engine, while Visual Studio shows you the version of SSDT Project Templates & Designer; and yes, they can have different versions.

  • Hi Ulysses B Brown Jr,

    I agree with Olaf, based on my test these number only changes when SSDT upgrades, which has no relation to the version of your current SQL Server installation. Also, for SQL Server vNext CTP1 you might need to use SSDT 17.0 RC1.
