Hardware requirement for smooth running of Visual studio 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am new to here.I just downloaded the Visual Studio 2013 Community edition and installed in My Hp laptop. The configuration of the laptop is as follows:

    Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4702MQ CPU @2.20GHz

    Installed Memory : 4.00GB (3.88 GB Usable)

System Type : 64 bit operating System, x64 based processor

    OS : Windows 8.1 Pro

My problem is the visual studio is not loading.Even if it loads it takes so much time to compile and run the project.I am trying to build a Windows Phone app.The emulator is also not getting started. The VTx is already enabled in BIOS.Along with that,in BIOS, Data execution Prevention and Intel Hyper Threading is also enabled.I had already done the workaround of adding the registry entry for Virtualization-Memory Reserve.Still the problem persists. Please help me to resolve this issue. If any hardware upgradation is required please let me know.

    Thankyou

  • Hi Nibin M,

You can first check the hardware requirements of visual studio 2013 community:

    1.6 GHz or faster processor

1 GB of RAM (1.5 GB if running on a virtual machine)

20 GB of available hard disk space

    5400 RPM hard disk drive

DirectX 9-capable video card that runs at 1024 x 768 or higher display resolution

    Refer to: https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/visual-studio-community-vs#sysreqs

Your computer meets the requirements to run visual studio 2013, we need to troubleshoot why your vs slow, please take the following steps:

Launch  the visual studio, open the simple project, not the windows phone project, compile and run the project, to see whether it takes much time:

    1. If this issue also exists in your simple project, to make sure whether it is related to the visual studio,

Please use devenv.exe /Resetsettings, it will restore Visual Studio default settings. Optionally resets the settings to the specified .vssettings file. Refer to: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms241273.aspx

Please repair the Visual Studio from the control Panel.

If the reset settings and repair don’t help, I doubt that your visual studio installation might have some problem, we may need your installation logs, please use  http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.cab from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://skydrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

    2. If the issue just exists in the windows phone project, and we check the system requirements for the emulator for windows phone 8:

It needs 4 GB or more of RAM, refer to: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/ff626524(v=vs.105).aspx

I’m afraid that your computer couldn’t run the emulator for windows phone properly, I suggest you try to expand your RAM to compile and run your windows phone project.

    Best Regards,

    Jiayi Li
