Help with an update statement. How to skip the timeout for locked records? RRS feed

I have a statement updating a record in my "Member" table.

The record I try to update might be locked, so the update will wait, wait, wait for the timeout length and then return an error.  That is fine and normal.

But is there a way to avoir waiting for the timeout duration?  For that specific update statement, if I try to update a locked record, I want the error to be raised immediately.

    Thank you for helping.

I will keep my post opened for a while to see if people have a solution, but I tried this statement before my update SET LOCK_TIMEOUT 0 and it seems to work.
